Abstract

This paper reviews five artificial intelligence tools that are most applicable to engineering problems: knowledge-based systems, fuzzy logic, inductive learning, neural networks and genetic algorithms. Each of these tools will be outlined in the paper together with examples of their use in different branches of engineering. The paper concludes by describing some of the engineering applications at the Cardiff Knowledge-based Manufacturing Centre.
