Abstract
The multiple dimensions of quality make defining it difficult, yet nurses must attempt to measure and assess the quality of nursing care in order to provide care of the standard desired by the public. Concern with quality patient care has led to the development of various tools and methods to measure and assess the quality of nursing care. A review of the nursing literature between 1980 and 1986 revealed a number of articles dealing with measuring and assessing quality. Important aspects of quality were identified for use when employing or constructing a tool to evaluate the quality of nursing care.
