Abstract

This paper suggests a series of guidelines for the conduct of ethnographic evaluations of human service programs. An attempt is made here to synthesize previous research in this area in order to further the development of a multi-perspective, context-sensitive evaluation model This approach is illustrated using material collected in the evaluation of an early intervention program for preschool children attending an urban day care center. It is suggested that ethnographic evaluations are particularly valuable because they can be used to facilitate program development and change.
