Abstract

The literature on sexual relationships has expanded rapidly in recent years as a result of different interests. Public health concern with HIV has prompted much empirical research, but this was predated by more sociological work on gender, heterosexuality and homosexuality. More recently, writing on the emotions has built on feminist analyses of relationships, and has developed largely independently of HIV-related research.
