An Investigation of Factors Associated with Vacation Satisfaction

Abstract

We factor analyzed specific vacation satisfactions and examined overall vacation satisfaction in relation to demographic, work-related, and vacation-related variables. Data were obtained from 129 respondents to both pre- and post-vacation questionnaires. Five vacation satisfaction factors were revealed. Overall vacation satisfaction was most strongly related to satisfaction with relaxation and leisure, and also significantly related to satisfaction with “escape” opportunities, marriage and family satisfaction, satisfaction with food and lodging, and level of educational attainment. No significant relationship was observed between six work experience variables and overall vacation satisfaction. The findings were discussed in terms of their similarity to quality of life research and in terms of practical implications.
