Abstract
Low-density (1.019 to 1.063) lipoprotein labeled with radioiodine enters the inner layer of the canine aortic wall directly from the aortic lumen. Its rate of entry is greatest in the proximal aorta and decreases progressively down the length of the aorta. A similar gradient was observed previously for the accumulation of cholesterol early in experimental atherosclerosis.

The observed similarities of the entrance rate of labeled albumin in normal dogs, the entrance rates of labeled cholesterol into canine aortic wall, and the rate of accumulation of cholesterol in dogs on an atherogenic regimen do suggest that information about the movement of albumin through arterial wall will provide a pertinent background to the study of the move of lipoproteins through that tissue.
