Abstract
The pharmaceutical industry has changed fundamentally in the last few years: the technological paradigms have changed (see chapter 4.2), and so has the organization of R&D. It is not so long ago that one pharmaceutical company did all the research in own departments and basically also the development activities. The tested and registered drug was marketed by the same company via a big network of sales personnel and clinical contacts. Often one best-selling drug made the greatest contribution to the company's profits and economic power. Even companies with a more diversified product portfolio have specialized in fields with firm's traditional competencies.
