Abstract
ABSTRACT This article discusses the need for the study by leisure researchers and others of the perceived nature of meaningful pursuits and the social psychology of commitment. In introducing reasons for this, key research literature is highlighted. Several aspects are then examined in further detail and current research directed by the author is outlined.
