Models of Urban Land Use Structure in Cities of the Developed World

Abstract

Urban models represent valuable pedagogic tools for teaching and learning in urban geography. This article is the first in a series of three that employ urban models to assist teachers and students in understanding the major agents and processes involved in the construction and reconstruction of contemporary urban environments. The article focuses attention on cities of the Developed World and provides critical analyses of urban models formulated on the basis of the major theoretical perspectives of urban ecology, political economy, humanism and postmodernism.
