Abstract
Our hope was to create a book which would inspire and interest not only those directly involved in the field, but the many psychologists, linguists, anthropologists, and teachers who have a stake in the exploration of linguistic awareness and thinking, and its development. There are many contributions still to be made on this subject, and we hope that this book will serve to stimulate further inquiry by all concerned. Both the conference and the publication of this volume were made possible by a grant from the Stiftung Volkswagenwerk.Special thanks
