Abstract

Personality assessment is a field of psychology that seeks to understand and measure individual personality differences that characterize people across time and circumstance. Personality assessment is used for a variety of purposes including the identification and description of personality features among normal individuals as well as the assessment of abnormal personality in patients receiving psychotherapy services. Personality assessment also plays a major role in the field of neuropsychology, medical psychology, industrial organizational psychology, and forensic psychology. The Society for Personality Assessment and several divisions of the American Psychological Association are centrally involved in the development, promotion, and application of personality assessment.
