Abstract
Polycyclic thiazoles, 6a and b, have been synthesised and the enantiomers resolved. Alkylation gave chiral thiazolium salts which catalyse the dimerisation of benzaldehyde to give benzoin with enantiomeric excesses up to 26%. Reasons for these results are discussed.

The ADP/ATP carrier was studied by a fluorescent substrate, formycin diphosphate which is the only fluorescent ADP analogue to bind, and shows directly that the earlier demonstrated ADP fixation by bongkrekate is indeed a displacement into the matrix.
