Abstract

Many doctors still find concepts of positive health, physical or mental, difficult to accept or understand. Health may be seen as simply an absence of symptoms of illness. Yet it can be argued that health and illness are not mutually exclusive (Sartorius 1992). Good nutrition and physical fitness are achievable even in the presence of serious medical problems. Most people would agree that those who enter sporting competitions for the disabled do enjoy a large measure of health.
