TL;DR

If a monkey is rewarded for pressing a key when a light comes on, there is a considerable delay between the onset of the light and the response to the key, which would provide a useful clue as to mechanisms of sensorimotor integration.

Abstract

If a monkey is rewarded for pressing a key when a light comes on, there is a considerable delay between the onset of the light and the response to the key. As Evarts (1966) remarks, "What sequence of neural events takes place during the 70-msec delay? An answer to this question would provide a useful clue as to mechanisms of sensorimotor integration."
