Controlling for initial individual differences in adolescence, use of the three major drug classes between adolescence and early adulthood affected most of the outcomes examined; most strongly continued Use of the same substance.

364 Citations1999D. Dwayne Simpson
Relapse to weekly cocaine use in the first year after discharge from 3 major treatment modalities was examined and patients with the most severe problems were more likely to enter long-term residential programs, and better outcomes were reported by those treated 90 days or longer.

A review of controlled evaluations of adolescent and other drug abuse treatment programs concludes that some treatment is better than no treatment, but few comparisons of treatment method have consistently demonstrated the superiority of one method over another, and posttreatment relapse rates are high.

The findings indicated that childhood aggression was related to both young adult drug use and delinquency and drug use during early adolescence had an impact on delinquency not only in early adolescence, but also in late adolescence and young adulthood.

108 Citations1998Thomas M. Achenbach, Catherine T. Howell +2 more
Across the diversity of a national sample, young adult signs of disturbance were predictable from risk and protective factors assessed in adolescence, and the predictors can help to identify youth at risk for particular signs.

98 Citations1999Christine E. Grella, Yih‐Ing Hser +2 more
There was a stronger positive relationship between treatment retention and abstinence at follow-up for younger adults in both treatment modalities and for older adults in ODF, and clinical implications of age-related differences in these relationships are discussed.
