Of primarily epidemiological interest, this monograph reports the results of a highly successful study carried out as a cooperative venture of the Erie County Health Department, the New York State Department of Health, and the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine to provide statistical information necessary to plan for the forthcoming expansion of the Medical Rehabilitation Program.

Abstract

Of primarily epidemiological interest, this monograph reports the results of a highly successful study carried out as a cooperative venture of the Erie County Health Department, the New York State Department of Health, and the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine. The purpose of this three-year project, completed in 1965, was to provide statistical information necessary to plan for the forthcoming expansion of the Medical Rehabilitation Program of the State of New York. Legislation had been authorized to provide financial assistance and services to families of children with long-term medical conditions not included previously under existing programs. The study objectives were to determine the incidence, prevalence, and mortality of long-term illness in children in Erie County and to determine the burden or impact of each disease on the child, family, and community.
