Abstract

To some extent, aspiration to traditionally open (TO) or to traditionally closed (TC) occupations can be thought of as representing different attitudes toward risk-taking. Other things being equal, a Negro who aspires to an occupation in an area of employment that has only recently opened to Negroes would seem to be indicating a willingness to take a somewhat greater risk than a Negro who aspires to an occupation in a traditionally open area.1
