Abstract
CAQDAS (Computer-assited Qualitative Data\nAnalysis Software) is not new; it emerged incipiently in\nthe 1960s and was gradually legitimated within scientific\ncommunity. During the last ten years, it has become more\nefficient in terms of their diversification and complexity.\nNowadays there are more than thirty different qualitative\ndata analysis programs, ranging from simple text retrivers\nthrough to theory building software. This article presents a\nsummary of the history of CAQDAS, its basic\ncharacteristics and the main effects that its emergence and\nuse have brought to qualitative research.
