Improved Upper Limit for the Electric Dipole Moment of the Neutron

Abstract

The previously described neutron resonance spectrometer has been modified to improve the determination of the effect of $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\mathrm{E}}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\frac{\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\mathrm{v}}}{c}$. An improved upper limit has been obtained for the neutron electric dipole moment of $|\frac{{\ensuremath{\mu}}_{e}}{e}|<1.0\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}23}$ cm with 80% confidence.
