Abstract
C.R. Goeldner of the University of Colorado describes a unique and significant tourism event which took place on 23–27 October 1988 in Vancouver, British Columbia, when more than 500 participants from 64 countries and 33 US states attended the conference ‘Tourism - a vital force for peace’. The conference featured five plenary sessions with illustrious speakers and 75 concurrent sessions and idea exchanges. Some of the conference highlights are contained in the report which follows.
