Abstract
Thirty-five women recorded their felt fetal movements during the last 3 months of pregnancy. Babies were tested on the Gesell Development Schedules at 12, 24, and 36 weeks. Kendall rank-order correlations were computed between prenatal activity and postnatal development, with birth weight held constant. Total fetal activity correlated significantly with the following areas of 12-week development: motor, adaptive, and total; at the 24-week test total fetal activity correlated significantly with motor, language, and total Gesell scores; and at the 36-week test all correlations between fetal activity and postnatal development were significant, with motor, language, and total Gesell scores showing the highest relations.
