This Is How We Do Research Around Here: Socializing Methodological and Measurement Issues

Abstract

Abstract Socialization processes involve change in individuals (and organizations) over time. These changes are a function of forces from multiple levels of analysis, including the individual, fellow newcomers, established coworkers, supervisors, the organization, and the larger cultures in which individuals/organizations are nested. The research and measurement methods needed to examine these processes include both classic approaches (e.g., the field experiment) and cutting edge techniques (e.g., computational and longitudinal modeling). This chapter will review these techniques as they apply to socialization research questions that are being asked and need to be asked.
