Abstract

The paper attempts to identify the benefits of recreation and leisure attributes in relation to one's satisfaction with community life. Various concepts of community are discussed and a paradigm for the study of recreation and leisure services from the broader perspective of quality of life is presented. Empirical investigations acknowledge the existence of a distinct recreation or leisure dimension, however, the contribution of this dimension is one's satisfaction with community remains unclear. Methodological issues relating to the study of community life are discussed and recommendations for future investigations are presented.
