A theoretical model of the problem recognition process is developed and the results suggest that organizationally controllable variables can affect the process.

Abstract

To assist managers in their difficult task of detecting problems, this study develops a theoretical model of the problem recognition process. Parts of the model are tested in 8 simulated managerial environment, using an in-basket of developed problematic situations. The results suggest that organizationally controllable variables can affect the process.
