Abstract

This review was commissioned by the Research and Development Division of the
\nDepartment of Health to inform the work of the Nutrition Unit by identifying the
\ncurrent state of knowledge of obesity, and to highlight future research needs. The
\ndocument aims to summarise the evidence about the effectiveness of interventions in
\npreventing and treating obesity, and the maintenance of weight loss, from randomised
\ncontrolled trials. It focuses on behavioural, dietary, exercise, surgical,
\npharmacological and complementary interventions.
