Abstract

Symptoms of 50 women at the climacterium were submitted to a principal factor analysis. Two main independent factors emerged representing psychological ans somatic symptoms. A third and smaller factor also emerged independent of the two main ones. This was identified as a specific vasomotor factor. Plotting subjects weighted factor scores against each other revealed normal bivariate distributions in all three cases. It was concluded that there is no intrinsic relationship between the central vasomotor symptoms of the climacteric and the accompanying psychological and somatic symptoms.
