Abstract

Numerous fears (school phobia, death phobia, separation anxiety) of a 10-year-old child were successfully counterconditioned using systematic desensitization both in vivo and imaginally. An 18-month follow-up revealed maintenance of behavior changes. The lack of experimental data on children's behavioral and physiological responses to variants of this technique is discussed.
