Field Education for Social Welfare Administration:

Abstract

The author describes and provides empirical data for a conceptual framework for field education in social welfare administration based on the integration of social policy and administration. The evidence supports the assumption that field education is concerned with the goals of social programs is more effective than one focused on the administrative means. Findings question the value of service delivery experience as a basis for education in social welfare administration. Field placement on the top and middle organizational levels were found to provide students with a goal focus. The implication of these findings for social work education are discussed.
