Abstract
Part II introduced the range of actors within what has been described as the 'heritage production-consumption system'. It was clear, however, from the accounts of both the visitors to historic sites and the policies of the agencies managing these sites that there are many contradictions implicit in such a system. Part III aims to identify and describe the most important of these.
