Abstract
In previous studies melatonin-free, aqueous extracts of bovine pineal glands were shown to partially block compensatory ovarian hypertrophy in mice. In this study a melatonin-free fraction of an aqueous extract of human pineal glands, isolated on Sephadex G-25, was found to possess similar antigonadotropic activity. Human cerebral extract treated in the same manner did not produce this effect.
