Abstract

This essay in the sociology of knowledge relates the typical concepts used in the field of social disorganization to the structure of American society and thebackgrounds and careers of social pathologists. It does not explicitly evaluate the worth of these concepts but characterizes the perspectives which are implied by the type and scope of problems usually considered in the literature of pathology.
