Abstract
The issue of the longitudinal view needed to be raised in order to support a functional concept of psychiatric disorders and their treatment. A model clinic has been shown to be the proving ground for finding new solutions to old but easily forgotten issues. Our approach has resulted in the successful restoration of two-thirds of seriously ill patients to a useful place in society. This has strengthened our conviction that the model concept holds great promise for the future of comprehensive psychiatric centers.
