Abstract

The roundtable discussion participants (i.e., the authors of this article) are health care providers with particular expertise in adult HIV/AIDS care and who have considerable experience in managing the specific issues that arise with adherence to antiretroviral medications. The participants do not represent an expert panel on the general field of compliance or adherence research or practice. adults with HIV disease, especially in light of the complex protease inhibitor-containing regimens that are now viewed as the best therapy for HIV infection. Based on their experiences with HIV-infected patients, the panel hopes to provide some useful and practical information addressing the fundamental question, What can we do as clinicians to improve adherence with antiretroviral regimens? It is beyond the scope of this meeting, and perhaps of any meeting, to resolve adherence issues.
