Three Problems in Teaching General Skills

Abstract

A major premise of these volumes is that we need educational practices that will help people to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. We want students to acquire general skills-skills likely to transfer to the new situations that will face them. I, and the other authors in this section, were asked to consider whether there are any general skills to be taught. I believe that there are, and I also believe that it will not be as easy as we would like to teach them.
