Abstract
The article offers a re-evaluation of the applicability of Imre Lakatos' methodology of scientific research programs (MSRP) to economic theory. Presented during the Nafplion Conference in September 1974, the methodology has seen improvement. One improvement was it has been clarified and articulated. Several members of the Lakatosian school that made the articulation possible include John Worrall and Elie Zahar. Several reasons why the MSRP attracts economists are cited. One of which is the emphasis of the methodology on internal explanations of theory change. In 1971, Lakatos developed the methodology to provide a meta-methodology or a general method for appraising methodologies.
