Abstract
Abstract The educational leadership of 275 Dutch principals in elementary education was investigated on the basis of teachers' assessments. Educational leadership is the capacity or ability of a principal to stimulate, support and supervise teachers, so that the latter may execute their tasks as well and as effectively as possible. A standardized test was administered to pupils aged between 10 and 12. This test, which comprised subtests on language, arithmetic and the handling of information, was used as a yardstick to measure the effect of educational leadership. The test showed no linear relationship between the educational leadership of principals and pupils average academic achievement.
