Abstract
Studies were undertaken to investigate changes in the activity of some neurotransmitter enzymes after deep surgical undercutting of the cortex in rat. The isolated regions were rostrocaudally limited by the bregma and the lambda. Homogenates of the undercut cortex were prepared after 1 wk and assayed for AChE, ChAc, MAO, and GAD. In the operated animals, a marked reduction in AChE activity (45%) was found, a moderated (10%) reduction in MAO and ChAc activities, and only a slight and reversible decrease in the level of GAD (4%).
