Abstract
This research study compared identical and fraternal twins to determine if communicator style is inherited. Sixty‐two pairs of identical (MZ) twins and 42 pairs of fraternal (DZ) twins from about 20 U.S. states completed Norton's (1983) Communicator Style Measure and Buss and Plomin's (1984) Temperament Survey for Adults. Results supported predictable relationships between Temperament and Communicator Style. In addition, MZ twins' scores were more closely related than DZ twins’ scores on nearly every variable studied. Variables that were most likely to be inherited were sociability, activity, fearfulness, distress, anger, openness, relaxation, dominance, and communicator image.
