Abstract

Native T7 DNA is seen in the electron microscope as a continuous fiber about 11 μ, long, without branches. The product of replication of T7 DNA (and also phage λ DNA) by Escherichia coli polymerase showed, in a large number of the molecules, a branched structure with as many as 12 ends. Branching appears early in the course of replication and persists in the product isolated free from template and enzyme.
