Abstract
The image that tourists have of a travel destination is based upon a set of perceptions concerning that destination. Understanding the cognitive structure. of destination image is a prerequisite to designing tourism marketing programs airned at enhancing that image and increasing time spent by tourisfs in the destination This paper examines the cognitive structure of city destination image for near-home tourists living in small communities and identifies the key components of image for this travel segment
