Abstract
An analytic and cognitive parameterization of coherence relations is proposed that contains the categories TYPE (CAUSAL, TEMPORAL, ADDITIVE), POLARITY (POSITIVE, NEGATIVE), and DIRECTION (FORWARD, BI-DIRECTIONAL and BACKWARD). Evidence for the parameterization comes from the first of a series of studies. An eye tracking study and a self-paced reading time
