Abstract
Agonistic and antagonistic analogs of oxytocin and vasopressin are proving to be valuable pharmacological tools for studies on (a) the central and peripheral effects of vasopressin in the regulation of blood pressure under normal and pathophysiological states, (b) the characterization of receptors for oxytocin and vasopressin in different tissues including the CNS, (c) the effects of vasopressin on memory processes and (d) in modulating the release of corticotropin. How the structures of some of these analogs were arrived at together with some of their pharmacological and potential therapeutic uses are the subjects of this review.
