Corporate planning takes off in Singapore

Abstract

A study of corporate planning in 223 firms operating in Singapore along various comparison criteria—industry, country of origin, extent of overseas sales, presence of a planning department, extent of sales in growth markets, and size—discovered almost ubiquitous short-term planning, more limited mid-term (3 to 5 year) planning and little longer-term planning. There were also some systematic patterns of differences in planning practices involving Japanese and U.S. firms, as well as some scattered differences related to industry.
