Revising Publishable Journal Manuscripts

Abstract

Despite the recognized importance of publishing in quality research journals, the existing tourism and hospitality literature has no prior studies on manuscript revision. This research note presents the findings of a content analysis of 75 reports of revision summary written for 59 manuscripts that were eventually accepted for publication by 22 tourism and hospitality journals. Findings of a content analysis identified 1528 response items, which were then grouped into six broad categories. The most frequently occurring items were among revision/editorial changes, whereas the least frequently occurring items were in the category of clarifications. This paper would be of interest to young researchers, especially junior academics and doctoral students, seeking to understand how better to revise their manuscripts.
