Abstract
In spite of a growing need for transdisciplinary sustainability knowledge, the diffusion of transdisciplinary sustainability research is still lagging behind in the German science system. This article explores the reasons for this situation and depicts an institutional reform programme for a broader dissemination of transdisciplinary sustainability research in Germany. It is based on a recent study assessing the status quo of sustainability-related research within the German science system.
