Residents’ attitudes and perception towards tourism development: A case study of Masooleh, Iran

Abstract

Masooleh, a protected national heritage town of Iran is characterized by the unique architecture of its inhabitants. This research note examines the residents' profile, attitudes, and perception towards tourism development. Based on 250 respondents interviewed, the majority are male, young and married. Even though local people strongly support tourism development, they are involved little with the planning and management of tourism in the region. It is proposed that for the sustainability of tourism development, future planning should consider the inclusion of local people.
