Abstract
The hospitality industry requires high cooperation and interaction among leaders and subordinates. Few studies have examined the relationship between workplace relationship quality and employee job outcomes in both the leader–member exchange and team–member exchanges in hotel firms. Therefore, the researchers examined the effects of leader–member and team–member exchanges on employee job outcomes, which was also done to clarify the role of employee gender. Survey data from 339 employees from 18 hotels in Taiwan indicated that both leader–member and team–member exchange are positively related to employee job performance, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. Employee gender moderates the relationships among team–member exchange, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. Implications of these findings are discussed and suggestions are offered for future study.
