Abstract

Using Google Scholar as a citation source and the hg-index as a citation metric, this study provides an up-to-date ranking of 69 pure marketing journals based on actual cites of articles published between 2003 and 2007. Results show that the top four journals are Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, and Marketing Science. Furthermore, this study investigates the relationships between the hg-index, the journal impact factor, the index of familiarity and rank, the number of articles that a journal publishes, and the journal's age. It also provides a comparison between the hg-index and citation-based metrics used in two recent ranking studies.
