Abstract
A patient with hepatonecrosis associated with cocaine use is presented. Postmortem examination of the liver showed marked periportal inflammation and necrosis, and mild diffuse fatty infiltration. These pathologic findings are identical to those previously reported in a mouse model of cocaine hepatotoxicity.

JAMADeath Caused by Recreational Cocaine Use
236 Citations1984Roger E. Mittleman
Although autopsy findings were generally nonspecific, multiple needle-puncture marks with surrounding ecchymoses are typical of IV cocaine abuse, an increase in cocaine-related overdose deaths is anticipated because of its popularity, increasing availability, and, currently, the increased purity of street cocaine.

211 Citations1984Amin A. Nanji, J. Douglas Filipenko
A patient with cocaine intoxication in whom the initial presentation was that of asystole and ventricular fibrillation is discussed, suggesting cocaine intoxication should be considered in any patient with unexplained cardiac arrest or ventricular arrhythmias.
The American Journal of MedicineLiver damage in heatstroke
184 Citations1970Michael C. Kew, I Bersohn +2 more
The effects of heatstroke on the structure and function of the liver have been studied in Bantu gold miners and it is suggested that the hepatic changes are the result of a combination of hypoxia and direct thermal injury.

182 Citations1984P. J. Lichtenfeld, D. B. Rubin +1 more
Two cases of subarachnoid hemorrhage that occurred within several minutes of "snorting" cocaine were studied, finding that the bleeding was from an anterior communicating artery aneurysm and an arteriovenous malformation in the temporoparietal region.

Results suggest that an active metabolite of N -hydroxynorcocaine may be responsible for the liver damage observed after injection of cocaine into mice, and suggests fairly strict structure requirements for activation.

117 Citations1978Ronald K. Siegel
The author reviews the literature on hallucinations that occur as a result of acute and chronic administration of cocaine and points out the similarity of cocaine hallucinations to entoptic phenomena and migraine hallucinations, which suggests a common mechanism of action based on CNS excitation and arousal.

Massive liver damage and marked elevation of serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase was observed after a single injection of 50 mg per kg cocaine-HC1, which led to increased sleep time after pentobarbital, and a decreased rate of pentobarBital metabolism in vivo.
